A great big thanks to all of you who joined us for our comedy night last Saturday night at the Royal George Hotel.
The night was a rip-roaring success and netted over £900 towards the tour fund, which is a fantastic effort!
The night was MC'd by Rob Riley, regular host of the "Off the Rails" comedy club takes place in the Royal George on the last Sunday of each month, and the "extra date" certainly did not seem to put Rob off as he rose to the occasion, providing excellent links and something of a "bonus attraction" on the night.
Mike Wilkinson kicked the night off, ably assisted by a member of the audience "happy in the haze of a drunken hour". Their impromptu double-act threatened to bring the house down at times, so thanks go to Mike particularly for doing what good comics do best and creating great amusement from the situation.
Next up was local man Chris Roche, who blew away the stereotypes and myths that outsiders have of Oldham folk. Okay, that last statement is not entirely true, but Chris was very funny in sending us up!
The grand finale (except for the obligatory raffle of course, which netted over £100 - thanks to Gill Leigh and everyone who donated prizes), was the musically-gifted and filthy-minded Duncan Oakley. Duncan's act can only be described as a fusion of a one-man-band fuelled by schoolboy humour, as he treated us to a set of songs played simultaneously on the bass drum, high hat, mouth organ and electric guitar about subjects such as new born baby smells, favours and who could forget "The girl with a bum for a face". Duncan had us all simultaneously astonished by his musical talent, appalled and yet laughing out loud at his sense of humour, subject matter and delivery.
Special thanks must go to Andy Stringer for the concept and delivery of such a great night that will no doubt be remembered as one of the highlights of the highlights of the fundraising year!
